Master’s Thesis / Working Student (m/f/d) Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Paper Technology

Your task is to support us in the development of a technology platform for dry paper web formation. To ensure that the paper fibers—dispersed by the forming unit—are properly deposited onto the conveyor belt, a suction system will be installed underneath the belt. The vacuum, acting in addition to gravity, ensures an even distribution of fibers and thus a uniform paper web. For this uniform web formation to be achieved, the velocity field beneath the conveyor must be as homogeneous as possible. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and designing the suction unit
  • Using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to analyze the flow field
  • Optimizing the design by integrating internal flow-control elements

You will closely collaborate with experienced professionals in an interdisciplinary and collaborative working environment between science and industry in the paper sector.

Your mission

Your tasks

  • Design and development of the suction unit
  • Use of modern simulation tools to analyze the flow field
  • Optimization of the unit with the goal of achieving a uniform velocity profile
  • Independent execution of flow simulations
  • Modification of the geometry using internal components to influence the flow behavior
  • Registered master’s student in process engineering, mechanical engineering, paper technology, or a related field.
  • You have already gained initial experience with CFD simulations or are motivated to familiarize yourself with this field.
  • Independent, structured working style with a passion for applied research.

Your profile

What we offer

  • Working student contract with flexible duration
  • Collaborate with an innovative and dynamic team in an excellent working atmosphere, including freedom for your own creativity
