Office time:

Master Assistant (m/f/d) process engineering, textile technology, fibre technology, mechanical engineering, chemistry, physics - Promotion possible (100% position)

in the research area of disruptive development for paper production with other fluids and with dry fibres

Your mission is to take on a key role within the BMBF-funded project (Modellfabrik Papier research cluster) focussing on “System Change in Fluid”. You will work closely with experienced experts in an interdisciplinary and collaborative working environment at the interface between science and industry in the paper sector.

Your mission

Your tasks

  • Your expertise is needed to develop new processes for dry web laying and the use of other fluids as a carrier medium for cellulose fibres
  • Your core tasks include the independent planning, implementation and documentation of research, (CFD) modelling and laboratory tests
  • You will develop various flow scenarios with dry fibres and serve as the basis for the development and construction of a test rig
  • You will research the flow behaviour of fibres with other fluids using PIV measurements, simulate sheet formation processes and thus make a decisive contribution to the design of an associated test rig
  • You will use all available software applications in a modern, networked and efficient working and laboratory environment
  • You will develop possibilities for energy- and resource-saving fibre transport systems and for the recovery of fluids
  • You will actively work in multidisciplinary teams to exchange ideas, discuss and find the best solutions
  • Based on laboratory results and literature research, you will make an essential contribution to implementing the next scaling stage (pilot plant / technology carrier) on a pilot plant scale and carry out validation experiments
  • You will supervise the entire process engineering process, from conceptualisation on a laboratory scale to the design and development of a pilot plant
  • Based on the results of the experiments carried out, you will derive options for optimising the processes
  • You have successfully completed a Master’s degree in process engineering, textile technology, fibre technology, mechanical engineering, chemistry, physics or a related field
  • The topics of environmentally friendly processes and sustainability (in the paper industry) are important to you
  • You have experience in the development of innovative solutions – ideally within research or industrial projects and multidisciplinary teams
  • You would like to expand your knowledge of fluid mechanics, CFD modelling and ideally hands-on experience with fluids and (novel) liquids
  • You are familiar with analytical methods and the statistical evaluation of data
  • With excellent communication skills, you can clearly convey complex scientific concepts

Your profile

What we offer

  • Temporary employment until July 2027
  • Remuneration and social benefits based on TVöD-Bund [E13]
  • Make your own contribution to a sustainable future by supporting pioneering research projects in the paper industry
  • Collaboration with an innovative and dynamic team in an excellent working atmosphere including your own creative freedom
  • Expand your network within academia and the paper industry
  • Opportunity for mobile working and flexitime arrangements as the basis for family-friendly and flexible working conditions
  • You will receive support in the further development of your scientific career
  • Modern and excellently equipped research laboratory with a high degree of digitalisation
  • You will experience an open and constructive feedback culture based on regular and mutual feedback discussions between employees and their supervisors or colleagues to enable continuous development
  • Opportunity to participate in regular team and company events
  • Networking events to share projects, ideas and interests
  • Participation in specialist conferences, training courses and further education to keep you up to date and expand your expertise
  • Equal opportunities for people of all genders (f/m/d) is an essential part of our HR policy.

Location

The Modellfabrik Papier will be built on the site of the Innovation Quarter at the Düren train station. Until the completion of our new building in early 2025, our activities will take place at the Jülich Research Center. Further office space is currently located in the CO_SPACE.DN.
