Office time:

Engineer (m/f/d) Chemical Engineer, Process Engineering in the field of Systemic Integration

Limited until July 2027, full-time

Your mission is to scale up innovative technologies and develop sustainable recycling solutions for modified raw materials and fiber waste within the BMBF-funded project (Model Factory Paper research cluster) with a focus on “Systemic Integration”. As a chemical engineer, you will be at the forefront of process development and ensure the seamless transition of our technologies from concept to large-scale application. Your expertise will be instrumental in optimizing fiber modification, advancing drying processes and refining other process innovations, while implementing efficient recycling strategies to improve the sustainability of industrial papermaking.

You will work closely with experienced professionals at the interface of science and the paper industry in an interdisciplinary and collaborative working environment.

Your mission

Your tasks

  • Your expertise is needed to develop and optimize processes and scale up various technologies from lab scale to industrial application, including fiber modifications, drying techniques and other relevant processes
  • You will work to bridge the gap between basic research and current industrial papermaking processes to identify scaling opportunities and transfer projects
  • You will develop and implement sustainable recycling strategies for modified materials and fiber waste to minimize waste volumes and environmental impact
  • You will work with research and development teams to improve technological processes and assess their economic and environmental feasibility
  • You will conduct comparative studies on the recyclability of modified fibers and new additives
  • You integrate the fiber and additive supply in biochemical refinery systems
  • You optimize the use of waste in integrated biorefinery systems

  • You will ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations in all technological processes and recycling
  • You will actively work in multidisciplinary teams to exchange ideas, discuss and find the best solutions
  • You have successfully completed a Master’s degree in chemical engineering, process engineering or a related field
  • The topics of environmentally friendly processes and sustainability (in the paper industry) are important to you
  • You have experience in upscaling laboratory technologies to pilot or industrial scale – ideally within research or industrial projects and multidisciplinary teams
  • You have already proven your ability to work independently and have taken responsibility for your (sub-)projects
  • You are familiar with recycling techniques and their evaluation – preferably you are also familiar with sustainability standards, the circular economy and industrial waste management
  • You have strong problem-solving and project management skills
  • Experience in working with external partners from industry and science is an advantage
