Chemistry / Chemical engineering, (Bio-)Process engineering, Biotechnology in the field of tailor-made raw materials - Cologne, Aachen, Düsseldorf

Your mission is to lead a main work package of the BMBF-funded project (research cluster Model Factory Paper) with the focus on “Tailor-made raw materials”. You will lead a team of 2-3 people and work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment at the crossroads between science and industry in the paper sector.

Your mission

Your tasks

  • You coordinate the main work package “Tailor-made raw materials” within the above-mentioned BMBF-funded project and ensure the distribution and timely processing of sub-aspects.
  • Together with your team, you develop and optimise processes for chemical and biotechnological fibre modification on a laboratory scale in order to prepare fibres for further processing.
  • You set up the corresponding analytics in order to evaluate the results of the tests.
  • You and your team analyse the flow behaviour of fibrous materials
  • The raw material and solvent libraries you create serve as a basis for further work.
  • Based on the laboratory results, you develop the next scaling stage (pilot plant / technology carrier) on a pilot plant scale and carry out validation experiments.
  • The process strategies you develop are used to enable the recycling of all recyclable material streams.
  • You prepare the results and present them in regular meetings with the project team or summarise them in reports.
  • You publish your research results in journals and present them at conferences/meetings.
  • You have a completed doctorate in the field of chemistry, chemical engineering, (bio)process engineering, biotechnology or a related discipline
  • The topics of environmentally friendly processes and sustainability (in the paper industry) are important to you.
  • You have experience in the coordination of research projects and the supervision of students or first team members.
  • Your teamwork and leadership skills enable you to lead a dedicated research team
  • You are familiar with analytical methods and the statistical evaluation of data
  • Your excellent communication skills allow you to clearly convey complex scientific concepts
  • You have the ability to strategically plan and implement research objectives
  • Experience in working with external partners and the scientific community is an advantage

Location

The Modellfabrik Papier will be built on the site of the Innovation Quarter at the Düren train station. Until the completion of our new building in early 2025, our activities will take place at the Jülich Research Center. Further office space is currently located in the CO_SPACE.DN.
