Office time:

Postdoc / Engineer (m/f/d)

process engineering, Textile engineering, Fibre engineering, Machineering in the field of system change in fluid

Your mission is to lead a main work package of the BMBF-funded project (research cluster Model Factory Paper) with the focus on “System Change in Fluid”. You will lead a team of 3-4 people and work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment at the crossroads between science and industry in the paper sector.

Your mission

Your tasks

  • You coordinate the main work package “System Change in Fluid” within the above-mentioned BMBF-funded project and ensure the distribution and timely processing of sub-aspects.
  • Together with your team, you develop and optimise new processes for dry web laying and the use of other fluids as a carrier medium for cellulose fibres.
  • You are responsible for the development of the associated process technology for energy- and resource-saving fibre transport in the overall process.
  • Through in-depth research and CFD modelling, you illuminate the flow behaviour of dry fibres and derive flow scenarios for the construction of pilot test rigs
  • You coordinate the use of optical methods to analyse the flow behaviour of fibres with other fluids (e.g. PIV), the simulation of sheet formation processes (e.g. CFD software OpenFOAM) and the design of a corresponding test rig
  • Based on the simulation and laboratory results, you develop the next scaling stage (pilot plant / technology carrier) on a pilot plant scale and carry out validation experiments.
  • In the team, recovery concepts for new fluids are researched, investigated and technologically integrated into the overall process.
  • You prepare the results and present them in regular meetings with the project team or summarise them in reports
  • You publish your research results in journals and present them at conferences/meetings.

  • You have completed a doctorate or are an engineer (at least 3 years of professional experience) in the field of process engineering, textile technology, fibre technology, mechanical engineering with a focus on fluid mechanics or a related field.
  • The topics of environmentally friendly processes and sustainability (in the paper industry) are important to you.
  • Your knowledge of fluid mechanics/fluid mechanics and your application-related knowledge of (CFD) simulations and the derivation of design rules (e.g. for test rigs, pilot machines) is required
  • You have experience in the coordination of research projects and the supervision of students or first team members.
  • Your teamwork and leadership skills enable you to lead a dedicated research team
  • You are motivated to drive new technologies, innovations and disruptive ideas and to create something new.
  • You are familiar with methods for systematic experimental design and statistical analysis
  • You can clearly communicate complex scientific concepts with excellent communication skills
  • You have the ability to strategically plan and implement research objectives
  • Experience in working with external partners and the scientific community is an advantage
