Office time:

Postdoc / Engineer (m/f/d)

papering engineering, (chemical) process engineering, energy engineering, machinery engineering in the field of innovative systems in aqueous media

Your mission is to lead a main work package of the BMBF funded project (research cluster Model Factory Paper) with focus on “Innovative Systems in the Aqueous Medium”. You will lead a team of 3-4 people and work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment in the hub between science and industry in the paper sector.

Your mission

Your tasks

  • You will coordinate the main work package “Innovative systems in aqueous media” within the above-mentioned BMBF-funded project and ensure the distribution and timely processing of sub-aspects.
  • Together with your team, you develop and optimize new processes for stock preparation on a laboratory scale to make fibers bindable and at the same time reduce the water retention capacity
  • You create and test different formulations and set up the associated analytics to evaluate experimental successes
  • You will develop and test new concepts for mechanical drying on a laboratory scale based on comprehensive research into known mechanical dewatering processes
  • Together with your team, you explore possibilities for thermodynamic and energetic optimization (e.g. web drying, alternative steam supply) with the help of laboratory test rigs.
  • The process energy of the new technologies is analyzed by you and your team
  • Based on the laboratory results, you develop the next scaling stage (pilot plant / technology carrier) at pilot plant scale and perform validation experiments
  • The process strategies you develop are used to enable adiabatic process control
  • You prepare results and present them in regular meetings with the project team or summarize them in reports
  • You publish your research results in scientific journals and present them at conferences / meetings
  • You have completed a doctorate or are an engineer (at least 3 years of professional experience) in the field of paper engineering, (chemical) process engineering, energy technology, mechanical engineering or a related discipline
  • You are interested in environmentally friendly processes and sustainability (in the paper industry)
  • Your application-related knowledge of different thermodynamic processes, such as isothermal, isobaric, isochoric and adiabatic processes is required
  • You bring experience in coordinating research projects and supervising students* or first team members
  • Your teamwork and leadership skills will enable you to lead a dedicated research team
  • You are driven by a very good understanding of processes and motivation for continuous improvement (e.g., achieving higher efficiencies)
  • You are familiar with process optimization methods and statistical analysis of data
  • You can clearly communicate complex scientific concepts with excellent communication skills
  • Your ability to strategically plan and implement research goals sets you apart from the rest
  • Experience working with external partners and the scientific community is a plus
