Office time:

Master Assistant (m/f/d)

process engineering, Textile engineering, Fibre engineering, Machineering, Chemistry, Physics in the field of system changeover in fluid - Cologne, Aachen, Düsseldorf

Your mission is to take on a key role within the BMBF-funded project (research cluster Model Factory Paper) with the focus on “tailor-made raw materials”. You will work closely with experienced professionals in an interdisciplinary and collaborative working environment at the crossroads between science and industry in the paper sector.

Your mission

Your tasks

  • Your expertise is needed to develop new processes for dry web laying and the use of other fluids as a carrier medium for pulp fibres.
  • Your core tasks include the independent planning, implementation and documentation of research, (CFD) modelling and laboratory tests.
  • You will work out various flow scenarios with dry fibres and serve as a basis for the development and construction of a test rig.
  • You research the flow behaviour of fibres with other fluids by means of PIV measurements, simulate sheet formation processes and thus contribute decisively to the conception of a corresponding test rig.
  • You will use all available software applications (e.g. CFD software OpenFOAM) in a modern, networked and efficient working and laboratory environment.
    – You will develop possibilities for energy- and resource-saving fibre transport systems and for the recovery of fluids.
  • You will actively work in multidisciplinary teams to exchange and discuss ideas and find the best solutions.
  • Based on the lab results, you will be instrumental in implementing the next scaling stage (pilot plant / technology carrier) on a pilot plant scale and conduct validation experiments
  • You will independently develop and test control and regulation concepts in order to network the above-mentioned devices and embed them in the overall process.
  • You have successfully completed a Master’s degree in the field of process engineering, textile technology, fibre technology, mechanical engineering, chemistry, physics or a related discipline
  • You are interested in environmentally friendly processes and sustainability (in the paper industry)
  • You have experience in the development of innovative solutions – ideally within research or industrial projects and multidisciplinary teams.
  • You would like to expand your knowledge of fluid mechanics, CFD modelling and ideally hands-on experience with fluids and (novel) liquids.
  • You have already demonstrated your independent working style and taken responsibility for your (sub-)projects
  • You are familiar with analytical methods and the statistical evaluation of data
  • You can clearly communicate complex scientific concepts with excellent communication skills
  • Experience in working with external partners and the scientific community is an advantage
  • If there is interest in a doctorate, please indicate in the cover letter
